GA-SEN: Martin Campaign Predicting “Close Victory”

Given the polls, the idea of Jim Martin may be crazy. It may be crazier to report a post predicting it. But, according the the progressive blog Tondee’s Tavern, Martin’s folks are feeling good right now.

Just heard from a top Martin campaign aide that they are expecting a “close” victory for Jim.

The blogger did not give any specific reasons for such a prediction and it all just be for morale. Either way, I thought I would post it and let everyone decide for themselves.

  1. I’m quite conservative when it comes to preelection polling. I think that due to low turnout especially among AA in what is still a fairly Republican state I think that Chambliss will break at least 52%. Don’t forget that Sarah Palin also came down to campaign for Chambliss and this will energize the Republican base to turnout. Ah well, always another cycle 🙁

  2. Lets say 25% of total voters are African American.  Martin wins this group 85-15… He now has 21.25% of the vote to Chambliss’ 3.75.  Martin needs to win the white vote by 40% to break 50% and hit 51.25%.  That Considering most polls didn’t have him breaking 30% among whites, I doubt their prediction… I’d assume this is a stunt to try and motivate Democrats to turnout.

  3. Until about 20 seconds before the polls closed in California…

I want to be optimistic about it, but really, what do you expect a Martin campaign aide to say??

    “We are hopelessly screwed”??!!??

    They have to project confidence.

  4. a lot of people are saying it’s a done deal but I think Obama will decide not to nominate Hillary Clinton for SoS.
